Carolina Cottage Colonial Windsor ChairReviewsI purchased this chair as a basic desk chair, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. There were a few issues with rough finishes underneath, but the chair itself is solid, comfortable, and well-designed. Loved the distressed black color of the chair. This is not a heavy chair. It has small legs and wood work, but the seating area is very comfortable to sit in. Great chair for a desk. Unlike it's cousin the Carolina Desk this chair is well built and looks good. Unfortunately I had to return the chair as the desk was awful and therefor had no use for the chair, otherwise recommended. These chairs are of very good quality and construction. They compare to similar chairs purchased at three times the price for previously purchased items. Average Rating:![]() |

Boss Banker's Chair, Antique WhiteReviewsThis chair was easy to assemble, looks great, and was a better price than anywhere else I could find. I will agree with other comments that the chair is more a yellowy cream than a white. That works for our room, but its a good detail to know. So far we love it. The box was really beat up when it arrived, so I was worried about damage to the chair. However, the pieces inside were very carefully wrapped and in perfect shape. Found the instructions and putting together very easy. Solid, nice chair for the price. Only complaint is I was hoping for pure white, and it is more a cream/yellowy white color. I almost bought a chair like this from Pottery Barn for nearly $400. I am very impressed with the quality of the chair and would recommend it to anyone who wants to save money. Everything was great about this chair: the price, free Super Saver Shipping, packaged perfectly, arrived without a scratch, easy to assemble. But the problem is, this chair is not white as described. It's a very yellow cream. Average Rating:![]() |

Replacement Breuer SeatReviewsI have bought dozens of replacement seats for my Breuer Chairs over the years and these were clearly an inferior product. They were much thinner than the normal ones and the workmanship was shoddy. I returned them for a refund and am still waiting. Don't be fooled. I recommend you purchase from Seats and Stools, who sold me a proper one. It was a perfect replacement for my worn out seats. I was able to recycle my old chairs into very usable chairs again, since the rest of the chairs were in good shape. I was very disappointed with the quality of this product, clearly not well manufactured. Furthermore, the design did not match my original seat. The product came from the The Antique Restoration Center. I've purchased replacement Breuer chair seats in the past, and while none of them exactly match the original seat, they have all been of nearly comparable quality. Not quite in this case (a replacement seat manufactured in China). Although it fits just fine and is similar in color, upon close inspection it clearly lacks the level of craftmanship and care I've come to expect in this product. You can easily see the roughness in the edging and seams, showing it was hastily fitted together without the normal attention to finishing and detail. I installed it anyway, since its not obvious from a distance and by the time you get close enough to notice, you're already sitting down. Still, it's disappointing to see the standards slipping this obviously. My 4 breuer seats prolonged the chairs for another few years. The products were delivered and installed in 3 days. Thanks for your prompt and courteous service. Average Rating:![]() |

500 Chairs: Celebrating Traditional & Innovative Designs (500 Series)ReviewsThe person I gave this book to loves it and seems to be constantly looking through its pages. Excellent photograghaphy. Excellent selection of chairs being showcased. If you enjoy furniture as art you will certainly enjoy this book. My personal interest is comfortable chairs with an artistic twist. I'll probably use this book as a jumping off point for chair designs I'll build for different needs. A truly great chair can be a great plane to land. Enjoy. Tables are my driving force at this time, but, after seeing 500 Tables, I ordered 500 Chairs and I may just have to throw my hat into the ring, as some of the chairs represented are singularly impressive and inspirational. 500 Chairs is remarkable: a beautifully made photographic account of sterling furniture design by leading makers as well as brilliant newcomers. Lark's 500 series consistently outshines all competitors, and this book is no exception: It's superior in range and inspiration to other collections out there. The book was juried by Craig Nutt, and includes pieces by nearly 300 different designers. Just some of the leading ones include John Grew Sheridan, Garry Knox Bennett, Gord Peteran, Curtis Buchanan, Judy Kensley McKie, Paul Freundt, Wendy Maruyama, and Sam Maloof. I'm very pleased to have this book on my shelves, and I strongly recommend also taking a look at 500 Tables: Inspiring Interpretations of Function and Style (500 Series), which is also from Lark Books. After all, chairs and tables go together very nicely! Simply excellent. Beautifully photographed and laid out, the work in this book is broad ranging, open minded and each one a sincere and intelligent design direction. Powerfully inspirational and helpful if you're needing a nudge to get out of the box with a design! Average Rating:![]() |

The Adirondack Chair: A Celebration of a Summer ClassicReviewsThis delightful book is a quick read full of history, wonderful photographs and personal stories sprinkled in which moves the reader through a spectrum of emotions. Grinning, getting misty-eyed and pausing to remember Adirondack chairs from my past were all part of the ride for me. There's even a chapter on the 'updated' Adirondack chair which showcases some pretty creative chairs. What a kick!! I knew from the cover---a photograph of a well-worn and weather Adirondack chair---that I was in for a treat, and the pages that followed confirmed that impression. Here is a superbly written and well photographed treatise on the ubiquitous Adirondack chair, that distinctly American style of chair that one cannot resist sitting in with a good novel and beverage. Through a combination of poetry, prose, anecdotes, and meticulous research, Daniel Mack elevates this rather pedestrian piece of furniture into a position of royalty, and does so with style and flair. For those readers who, like myself after reading this book, are so moved to build an Adirondack chair, Mr. Mack offers plans and step-by-step instructions. The advanced woodworker will find the wide variety of chair designs contained in this book positively inspiring; novice woodworkers will find the plans and easy to follow step-by-step instructions particularly helpful. Even the casual reader will enjoy the rich historical perspective and outstanding photography. Average Rating:![]() |

Thereâs no competition. When it comes to the American Idyll, the hammock and the Adirondack chair are the shoe-in (and shoes-off!) winners. Built for lazing around in, theyâre the classic icons of a summer getaway... |

Chairs: A HistoryReviewsLets face it some us are simply in love with furniture and for a great deal of us the true great love is chairs. I also love history and this book gives you both. This book has a permanent home on my living room coffee table and I never tire of looking through it and neither will you. No one who has seen my home would expect me to have anything to do with a furniture book. But some perceptive friend gave me this book and now I get it! Under Ms. de Dampierre's tutelage, I have grown to understand how pieces of furniture are a reflection of the times in which they were created. This study of chairs is no less fascinating than any great work of art history and the author does an incredible job of detailing changes in social and political currents which impact the design and use of each chair in her exhaustive chronology. As importantly, the pictures are beautiful; the book is worth buying for them alone. Florence de Dampierre has produced what will certainly be not only the definitive guide to the chair itself but also a witty and learned look at how modes of communication in differing cultures governed the kind of furniture people invented for themselves. The scope of the book is huge, ranging from the cradle of civilization in Mesopotamia and Africa to the chair as modern art. I recommend it highly, both for serious collectors as well as anyone who has ever thought twice about the provenance of the place they've just sat down in. The book is copiously and beautifully illustrated, so it makes a lovely gift. In this fascinating book, De Dampierre brings a fresh perspective to world history by describing it through one of the most ubiquitous items in our daily lives: chairs. In doing so, she has produced a highly enjoyable read for both the sophisticated antique collector and the general student of history. A very well written book with lovely and truly beautiful illustrations. Highly recommended! Average Rating:![]() |
